Dr. Hamaoka joined Japan Tobacco Inc. in 1987. In 1996, he was transferred to JT America Inc. where he was involved in JV establishment, joint development, licensing-out and other alliance activities.

In 2000, he joined Takara Shuzo Co. Ltd. where he oversaw licensing and alliances related to genetic engineering and gene therapy.

After establishing Takara Bio through a spin-off in 2002, he was appointed as Executive Officer in 2004. Since then, he has been involved in licensing and alliances, M&A, joint development alliances, and intellectual property-related work.

In 2021, he was appointed as Director in charge of Corporate Division (General Affairs, Human Resources, Finance, Public Relations, and Investor Relations), and in 2023, he was appointed as Senior Managing Director. Currently, General Manager of Corporate Division.
