Dr. Michael J. Green is Professor and CEO at the United States Studies Centre at the University of Sydney. He is also the Kissinger Chair (non-resident) at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, DC where he previous led programs as the Senior Vice President for Asia while concurrently directing Asia Studies as Professor and Chair in Modern and Contemporary Japanese Politics and Foreign Policy at Georgetown University. Dr. Green served as Director and then Special Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs and Senior Director for Asia on the National Security Council staff from 2001 through 2005. His publications include By More than Providence: Grand Strategy and American Power in the Asia Pacific since 1783 (2018) and Line of Advantage: Japan’s Grand Strategy in the Era of Abe Shinzo (2022). He hosts the podcast The Asia Chessboard, serves on the Boards of The Asia Foundation and Radio Free Asia, and is Senior Advisor for The Asia Group consultancy.
