Rurika IMAHASHI started her journalism career with Nikkei in 2015. She was first assigned to the Commodity News Department to cover global commodity markets such as rare earths, iron, copper, gold, and grains. Later she worked for Nikkei Asia, Nikkei's English publication, reporting for international audiences on topics in Indo-Pacific. Her beats in Tokyo included Japanese retailers, automotive companies, gender issues, and the first-ever postponed Olympic Games in modern history. She has been a correspondent in Sydney since April 2023, covering Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands with a particular focus on decarbonization and the security in the region.
