Mimi Zou

Professor, Head of School of Private &Commercial Law, UNSW Sydney

Professor Mimi Zou is the Head of School in the School of Private and Commercial Law at the University of New South Wales and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law. She also practises as a barrister on Tenth Floor Chambers, Sydney. Professor Zou is a global leader in the field of law and governance of AI and other emerging technologies. Her work has informed high-level policy and regulatory initiatives, and she has served as a senior adviser to the G7, the World Economic Forum, the UK Government’s responsible technology adoption body and the UK Ministry of Justice. Professor Zou founded the University of Oxford's first lawtech innovation lab as well as an AI legal tech spinout. Her most recent book is The Cambridge Handbook of Generative AI and the Law. She received the Global Australian Award for Technology in 2024 and the Women in Law Trailblazer Award in 2025. Professor Zou holds a Bachelor of Civil Law (Distinction) and a DPhil in Law from the University of Oxford.
