Takuya drives business development and R&D initiatives in regenerative sea urchin aquaculture and marine biorefinery projects to unlock value from underutilised marine biomass.

His work focuses on transforming marine environmental challenges into sustainable business opportunities through partnership with industry, government and research organisations across Australia and Japan. In 2025, he also played a key role in delivering the inaugural Australian Sea Urchin (UNI) Summit in Hobart, funded by the Australia-Japan Foundation and the Tasmanian government, creating a forum to address shared marine environmental challenges and foster collective action on sea urchin resource utilisation and marine ecosystem restoration.

Prior to joining KSF Australia, Takuya spent approximately ten years as an international environmental consultant at Nippon Koei, delivering forest and biodiversity conservation projects across Southeast Asia. As part of this experience, he also served as a Forest Carbon Strategist at INPEX, where he led the development of nature-based carbon credit initiatives. He graduated from Waseda University and holds an MSc in Ecosystem Management and Conservation from the University of Melbourne.
