With the enactment of the GX Promotion Act in May 2023, and the acceleration of Green Transformation (GX) initiatives by governments and companies, four areas -- Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka and Hokkaido -- were designated as "Special Zones for Financial and Asset Management Businesses" in June 2024. In addition to finance-related matters, Sapporo in Hokkaido will intensively relax regulations related to renewable energy to attract GX investment from Japan and overseas.
The event will also encourage international collaboration. In the Japan-U.S. Joint Leaders’ Statement issued in April this year, the U.S. announced initiatives to accelerate climate change countermeasures. In Asia, the Asia GX Consortium has been established to promote transition finance for decarbonization, and initiatives to expand the base of transition finance in Asia, mainly in Japan, will progress.
Taking advantage of this opportunity, the City of Sapporo, Nikkei Inc, and TV Hokkaido will co-host the NIKKEI FORUM Global GX/Finance Conference Sapporo. In collaboration with European countries, the U.S. and Asian countries, we will consider various issues of the GX strategy, which is expected to be a new source of industrial competitiveness for Japan in the global market.
