Paul Donovan

Global Economist, UBS Investment Bank

Born : March 31,1972

Paul Donovan is Managing Director and Global Economist of UBS Investment Bank. He is responsible for formulating and articulating UBS Research’s global economic views leveraging the bank’s worldwide resources. Donovan has been a close observer of Japan and its relative position in the global economy for almost 25 years.

Donovan joined UBS in 1992 to focus on fixed income research of the Japanese and Australian markets. In 1995, he moved to the firm’s Economics team.

Donovan received an MA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford University, and he holds an MS in Financial Economics from the University of London. He studied Japanese politics and government at the Nissan Institute, Oxford. He is currently a senior member and Honorary Fellow of St Anne’s College, Oxford, as well as a member of the Vice Chancellor’s Circle at Oxford University.

A member of the Royal Economic Society, the American Economic Association, and the Economic History Society, Donovan is also a member of St Anne’s Investment Committee, co-founder of the Peter Culverhouse Memorial Trust (a charitable fund that raises money for cancer research and patient care), and an economic adviser to the East London Business Alliance. In 2011, he co-authored “From Red to Green? How the Financial Credit Crunch Could Bankrupt the Environment.”
