From 1983 to 1986, Dr. Gu was a researcher at Zhejiang Medical University, working for the Population Research Institute. The next fourteen years were spent in The United States and Singapore. His experience in America included a PhD at the prestigious Cornell University, after which he worked as a consultant in demographic market research for Dow Jones. From 1997, Dr. Gu served as Assistant Professor at the National University of Singapore until joined Midea in 2000. He is currently Vice President of Midea Group.
Dr. Gu began his time at Midea overseas project investment and was subsequently the vice president and later the president of various departments involved in developmental strategy. In 2016, Midea and Toshiba completed the transfer of Toshiba’s white goods business, and Dr. Gu serves as Chairman of the Board, Toshiba Lifestyle Products & Services Corporation.
